I got in SOOO much trouble for playing a version of this in college. You wouldn't believe the kind of paranoia and obsession it inspires in the sanest of people. You get an assassination assignment complete with photo and conact information. Then you hunt your prey with a water gun, water balloon, a straw filled with water or whatever. If you successfully shoot your quarry, you inherit their assignment. You'll never be so excited to find a stranger or so afraid to leave your house.

Running the Numbers ~ an American Self-Portrait
Chi and Honey - Jun-23-07 2:36A
http://www.chrisjordan.com/current_set...
"looks at contemporary American culture through the austere lens of statistics. Each image portrays a specific quantity of something: 106,000 aluminum cans (thirty seconds of can consumption); 1.14 million paper bags (the number used every hour) and so on. Images representing these quantities have a different and more lasting effect than the raw numbers alone, bypassing the numbing effect of facts and figures and giving viewers a visceral sense of the dizzying enormity of our society..
Note~ If you are in NYC the prints must be seen in person to be experienced the way they are intended (up till July 31st). The series is a work in progress, and new images will be posted..." ~Chris Jordan, Seattle, 2007

The untelevised network puts you in the executive's chair. You decide what pilots become a series and which series are good enough to keep. My current favorite is Planet Unicorn, but I'm sure that's only scratching the surface. They do a live screening monthly in LA and directors are invited to contribute/subject themselves to the audience.

After 23 years of writing for the LA Times, Mike Penner has come out as a transexual. In this touching article, he announces to his readers and the world that after a few weeks of vaction, he will return as Christine Daniels. I can't begin to imagine how the sports world will accept the transition, but I wish him well in this part of what's been a long journey.

Freakonomics
Michel - Nov-5-06 3:07P
http://www.freakonomics.com/thebook.php
" Through forceful storytelling and wry insight, Levitt and co-author Stephen J. Dubner show that economics is, at root, the study of incentives - how people get what they want, or need, especially when other people want or need the same thing. In Freakonomics, they set out to explore the hidden side of ? well, everything. The inner workings of a crack gang. The truth about real-estate agents. The myths of campaign finance. The telltale marks of a cheating schoolteacher. The secrets of the Ku Klux Klan."

How did this movie go by so quietly in 2005? On a much appreciated tip from Mike, we rented this movie over the weekend. Juliane Moore gives another excellent performance. She's got a lock on the staid 50's housewife. Both funny and moving, the film is based on the real life of a woman who supported her large family by entering contests.

Congress Approves NASA Budget
Sammy T - Nov-22-04 2:16P
http://space.com/news/nasa_budget_0411...
"Sending people to the moon and Mars is no longer just President Bush's vision. It's officially the United States' new mission in space.

Congress voted Saturday to give NASA all of the $16.2 billion it sought for 2005, money not only to return the space shuttles to flight but also to start designing a replacement spaceship and planning moon missions."

I am very impressed (and suprised) this fully-funded budget was passed as cleanly as it was. It was down to a simple choice really--either let NASA be the exploration agency it was meant to be or get rid of NASA. The current situation had to go. I like that it passed quietly without much hoopla. Give NASA some money, skip the political speeches, and let those engineers' imaginations and talents run wild. Expect great things in less time than you think. One day soon you're gonna be eatin' some cornflakes and realize there are people are living on the moon.

Stop by the Caipirinha Club and have a go at the Brazilian national drink. I tried the one in Rio and had a great time. They have an amazing variety of Caipirinhas and an interesting selection of finger foods and appetizers. I din't try any of the meals, but just had a snack and a couple of drinks.
